Clément Janinet is one of the most distinctive voices on the European jazz and improvised music scene. A French violinist and composer, he crafts a singular sound at the crossroads of jazz, minimalism, and traditional music.
A disciple of Didier Lockwood, trained at the CNSM Paris (First Prize, 2007), Janinet quickly developed a personal language shaped by extensive travels and deep encounters with African and South American musical traditions. His violin playing expands the instrument’s possibilities, blending raw expressivity with refined sonic exploration.
Over the years, he has collaborated with major artists such as Mark Turner, Han Bennink, Magic Malik and Richard Bona, while also engaging deeply with global music scenes.
As a bandleader, he has established a strong artistic identity through acclaimed projects such as O.U.R.S and La Litanie des Cimes, both praised by international critics. His collaborations with Malian musicians, including Adama Sidibé and the griot singer Mah Damba, further highlight his commitment to cross-cultural creation.
In 2025, he launched Garden of Silences, a European quartet featuring Arve Henriksen, Ambre Vuillermoz and Robert Lucaciu. The project explores a unique sonic territory where baroque influences, contemporary minimalism and free improvisation converge into a deeply immersive musical experience.
With more than 700 concerts across 35 countries, Clément Janinet stands out as a leading figure of a new generation of boundary-crossing artists.
