CONCERTO FOR SOKOU

France-Mali / Jazz-World

“Really? There are violins in Africa?

The goal of Concerto pour Sokou, violinist Clément Janinet's latest project, is to put that endless question to rest once and for all.

It highlights the sokou, a little-known traditional West African violin that's in danger of disappearing and yet is thousands of years old.
The project combines the sounds of Fulani music with those of Western improvisation, finding common paths through the counterpoint between oral and written traditions.

The 1st album of Concerto pour Sokou, will be released in 2023 on the Helico Music label
